Sadly its a software thing. Mac OS X does not support two users logging
in and working locally. Actually, I don't know an OS that does. Many
OSes allow for multiple users to log in and work remotely and Mac OS X
does support that. But that is a bit different from what you are
talking about.

Is it in any way possible to have one OS X box with dual consoles

"computer desk" to use the machine is going to be way too disruptive
for her workflow. (Well I guess I can agree with that.) With our
desks set facing front-to-front, it would be easy to have one computer
serving both of us, and dual G5's definitely have the power to handle
two simultaneous users (for the occasional times when we'd actually do
computer work simultaneously).
I almost think we should have waited a bit for the new G5 iMac. We
could easily have swiveled that around between the two desks, anyway.
If two consoles isn't possible, maybe I can find some swiveling stand
to put the monitor and keyboard on.
