It's neither here nor there, but this is the basis of serial consoles and mainframes/terminals. You can take most any UNIX/Linux box and enable a getty on the serial port and log in with anything that is a dumb terminal or emulates one. Or, a dirt-cheap dumb X terminal for graphics.


It's not much use for OS X since text-only or X11-only would miss out on most of OS X's capbility, but it might be a fun thing to try :)
