Hi,
I am complete noob to MySQL and MaxDB, and absolutely struggling with the
documentation. My question is:
Can anyone point me to a step-by-step quickstart tutorial explaining how to
set up a MaxDB server and the accompanying tools on SuSE Linux?
I'd very much appreciate such a text. The original documentation is really a
mess, compared to what you get with PostgreSQL, eg. Documentation is
(1) Frames and JavaScript: Why?
The HTML pages use some kind of buggy DHTML. Navigation sucks. Descending
two or three levels deep, I get error messages of type "is not a registered
protocol" in Mozilla Firefox. I don't see an advantage in HTML pages with
frames and JavaScript just for a technical documentation like this, but I
clearly see what happens if its done by people who don't know what they are
doing.
(2) Information is largely unorganised
The information presented in the documentation is apparently extensive, but
to get together what I need I have to follow quite a few hyperlinks and
cross-references. There's no single page explaining in a conistent manner a
subject as a whole. Instead, there's redundancy. Basic concepts are
mentioned, as opposed to explained, on many pages, but the how-tos are
missing completely.
Please don't get me wrong: I *want* to use MaxDB, but my first impression is
that documentation is currently more a hurdle than help.
Thanks to anyone finding me better sources of information in advance.
