I would suggest you take a look at the wiki page on
http://sapdb.2scale.net/moin.cgi and follow the link "Installation and
Administration under Windows and Linux (GUI and DBMCLI)" on this page
(and maybe other . This gives a step by step installation documentation.

The MaxDB docu is a typical SAP documentation. It contains endless
amounts of information and if you are a experienced user that got used
to the documentation logic it is extremely helpfull, but as long as you
are nooby to the logic, it is near to absolutely worthless. (I myself am
working with SAP systems for more the 10 years now so, ...)
