I'm not really a GNOME expert (neither am I a GNOME user), but you can
also find "Default Editor" where you can set what editor GMC should use.
Note that do_edit_at_line() is still eventually used in GMC, for example
in the "Find" dialog. Unfortunately, I don't know whether it's possible to
handle this in GNOME - the Control Center would have to ask how to
instruct that particular editor to go to a specific line at startup.
This means that GMC will sometimes prefer the $EDITOR variable over the
settings in gnomecc.
I personally think that the next release of Midnight Commander should be
the last one supporting GNOME. It's obvious that GNOME developers have
lost interest to it.
