hmm xterm +u helps, but the default terminal in RH 8.0 is konsole.
But today I found a way how to get around the UTF8 problem:
Options -> Display bits -> ISO8895-1 or 7 bits
Problem solved on both sides :DDD
It gave me headaches for two days :/
