If you're looking for something tailored to archaeological collections you might want to look at Shared Shelf<http://www.artstor.org/shared-shelf/s-html/shared-shelf-home.shtml>. It has integrated the ArchaeoCore metadata standard being developed at UVA.

Can anyone recommend a Digital Asset Management for an *archaeological* based collection? Or, if you are willing to share with me (offline) any programs you would not recommend? Our collections database is in Microsoft Access. I don't want to reinvent the wheel for archiving (since there are already several good programs) and would prefer using a proprietary program to manage our growing digital collections (including scanned field notes, photos, etc.) Thanks, Susie +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Susie Fishman-Armstrong, M.A. Curator of Collections Antonio J. So while digitizing negatives, I've been recording the metadata into an excel sheet. I'm following Dublin Core and added some preservation metadata fields. Anywho, considering the institution I'm volunteering for doesn't have a DAMS or CMS, I was thinking of embedding the metadata using Photoshop. I successfully completed one image's embedded metadata and it wasn't difficult or too time consuming. The REAL question is...is it worth it? Should I just be doing the Dublin Core metadata in the Excel sheet OR just the IPTC metadata in Photoshop? Or is both great? Ultimately, I want to prep these photos so that if/when they do get a DAMS, they'll be easily added to the system with all their information. Any input or completely different suggestions would be greatly appreciated :D Thank you!! _______________________________________________ You are currently subscribed to mcn-l, the listserv of the Museum Computer Network (http://www.mcn.edu) To post to this list, send messages to: mcn-l at mcn.edu To unsubscribe or change mcn-l delivery options visit: http://mcn.edu/mailman/listinfo/mcn-l The MCN-L archives can be found at: http://toronto.mediatrope.com/pipermail/mcn-l/ -- Matt Wheeler, Photography Archives, Penobscot Marine Museum Archives (207) 548-2529 ext. 211 -- BEGIN-ANTISPAM-VOTING-LINKS ------------------------------------------------------ Teach CanIt if this mail (ID 0eJrRhEvg) is spam: Spam: http://canit.westga.edu/canit/b.php?i=0eJrRhEvg&m=890334beb110&t=20130424&c=s Not spam: http://canit.westga.edu/canit/b.php?i=0eJrRhEvg&m=890334beb110&t=20130424&c=n Forget vote: http://canit.westga.edu/canit/b.php?i=0eJrRhEvg&m=890334beb110&t=20130424&c=f ------------------------------------------------------ END-ANTISPAM-VOTING-LINKS _______________________________________________ You are currently subscribed to mcn-l, the listserv of the Museum Computer Network (http://www.mcn.edu) To post to this list, send messages to: mcn-l at mcn.edu To unsubscribe or change mcn-l delivery options visit: http://mcn.edu/mailman/listinfo/mcn-l The MCN-L archives can be found at: http://toronto.mediatrope.com/pipermail/mcn-l/
