Most DVD movies have a 2 channel track that is able to be decoded and output
as LPCM. Whether this is Dolby Digital 2.0, MPEG 2.0 (or 5.1 which is
matrixed and decodable by a 2 channel decoder) or PCM on the DVD is of no
consequence as the players can be configured to output either the raw
compressed data or LPCM. Note that you must select the 2 channel audio
track for playback (often listed in the audio selection section of the DVD's
menu as Dolby Pro-Logic) and set the player to output LPCM. AFAIK, there is
not yet a DVD player on the market that can output any kind of signal from a
DTS bitstream, other than the raw data.
