I am glad to see some reality in the recent posts. I happen to think
reliability with minidisc equipment is a HUGE problem and a consumer
ripoff, from the 510 turn-on/protected bug to the Sharp UTOC problem
to the new 920 disc problems etc. etc. That's one reason I got the
R50... I didn't see any pattern other than people who dropped theirs
having problems.

I'm also glad to see people acknowledging the problem with using the
same jack for line out and headphonesin portables. In my view, if you
want it to be a true hi-fi device, a separate line out should be a
high priority, or else get proof positive the line out aka headphone
jack line out does not run through the headphone amp. Another reason
to get the R50. This is the reason I ruled out sharp (also UTOC
problems), and sadly the AIWA portables. Shoving these topics under
the carpet as a way of promoting minidisc to unsuspecting buyers is a
sad thing for this community to do.

Of course I'm entirely biased having bought one, but I say....
R50 RULES!!!!!!!!!!!!! R50 RULES!!!!!!!!!!!!! Go find one at
Crutchfield's!!!!!!!!!!! Go find one at Circuit City!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Who knows how long until the next ADEQUATE minidisc product will hit
the market?????????????????????????

Regards to the list! Steve
