Consider how much actual recording you'll do on it (are you planning to buy
a home deck at some point in the future?), how long a battery life you'll
need, and how important size and weight are to you.
While the R55 shaves a fair bit of weight off and is a lot smaller, it has a
*much* shorter battery life, and the lack of a jog dial (along with the
smaller buttons) makes home recording a bit more difficult.
If you want a mostly playback unit (that can do the odd live recording), and
you can live with 4-hour playback time (enough for to and from work, plus a
lunch hour), then the R55 is a good bet especially if you plan to buy a deck
for much of your recording.
If you want a more practical (but heavier and larger) solution, get an R50
:)
