It is not a good idea to overwrite tracks IMHO.  Your best bet is to
delete the offending track,  write new track (be sure to use "END
SEARCH" if your unit has that,  then move old track to the position of
the deleted track.  If you try to just replace the track by overwriting
it, you will experience the phenomena that you described.
