Is it a SB Live Value?

The reason I ask is that I recently purchased a new Dell that came with a
SB Live Value and had some trouble getting my Hoontech I/O III bracket
working. Here's why:

The SB Live Value that came preinstalled in my Dell is a special OEM
version. Look at the top right hand side of the board and you'll see
a model number stamped on it - mine says "Model CT4780". The Hoontech
bracket has an adaptor that you physically plug into the boards AUD_EXT
connector pins. The trouble I had is that this specific model of the
SB Live Value has a capacitor solderered on the board right near the
AUD_EXT pins that prevents you from completely seating the I/O III
adaptor. It also has a newer 40 pin connector than other SB Live Value
cards that use a 12 pin connector. I have pictures that I can mail to
you if you're seriously interested.

If you don't have this particular model SB Live Value, then you may not
have this problem. You could also go with the Hoontech I/O II bracket
because it uses a ribbon cable instead of an adaptor, however the I/O II
has slightly different I/O options (S/PDIF in, Optical out, plus others).
The I/O III has both Optical in and out plus others - check out
http://hoontech.com for all the details.

The good news is that I was able to modify the I/O III adaptor bracket
to work with the particular model SB Live Value that I have.

It's also worth mentioning that Brian from Votron Electronics and the
guys at Hoontech were outstanding to deal with. I wouldn't hesitate
giving them more business in the future.
