I think sharp has come up with a commercialised version of what MD techies
has been doing for so long. Recording from a computer to MD. Sharp just made
it user friendly and foolproof. Personally, although the idea is not
original, i believe sharp has just taken a small step foward that can and
will result in a great leap in the usage of MDs. I fully support their move
as it only extends to making MDs more known to computer users out there who
never saw MDs as an option for internet audio. Hopefully computer users will
see it as a tried and tested way to store their internet music, instead of
having to fork out money in solid state audio which is still in its infancy.
(realtive to MDs) Added to the fact that MP3 savvy people also tend to be
into gadgets, MDs might suddenly surface from a media for an elite group of
people to having mass market appeal. The voquette system could easily be
improved if sharp utilised USB ports combined with a digital interface
connection for digital recording. This would definitely be a welcomed plus
for the more audio conscious community.

Anyway, just my 2cents worth.

>I ve just recorded MP3, Real Audio MS Window Media formats directly to the
>MD.
>And it s all done automatically!!
>
>The way to do it is very simple:
>- You can surf the net (using your browser)
>- Drag and drop links of any content in any format into a small icon on the
>screen and
>- Schedule automatic recording.
>- The PC will wakeup during the night (according to the time scheduled)
>- Automatically dial to the Internet, download and record my recording list
>onto my MD and ..
>- Disconnect from the net.
>All this without running the batteries out of it's juice.
>(They use the PC's power to provide current to the MD).

>Well... My friend has just showed me his new Internet MD.
>This is basically Sharp-MT15 with a "NetLink" adapter and a software client
>(they call it VMM) from a company named Voquette.
>
>The adapter is connected to the PC on one end and the MD on the other.
>You put the MD in Sync Record mode.
>and the VMM software is very simple to use.

>I played with it and it's great.
>The only drawback I found is that they record the audio of the sound card
>(but I tested it and the sound quality was at the same quality as I get
>listening to music via my PC's speakers)
>Another drawback is that the recording is done in real time (but the
>overnight recording compensates for it and the fact that by the end of the

>This is also the first time I experienced automatic recordings of streaming

>Bottom line >> Forget about solid-state devices! It s time for net-enabled
