What little I know about MIDI is that midi files contain no actual sound
data, only instructions for how to play a piece on a synthesizer or
keyboard. SInce no actual sound comes out of the midi jack, you won't be
able to do the midi-digital connection you were hoping for. However, if
your keyboard has a digital output(as opposed to a midi out), then you can
record directly. I have seen Kurtweil's that do this. Just make sure that
it is the proper format, SPDIFF, not the other one, AES-something.
OTherwise you will have to do an analog from the line out or headphone
jacks. I have done both types of recording(digital and analog), from a
really nice Kurtzweil K-2500, and they both sound great. At least I think
it was a K-2500. Whatever, its a ten grand piece of equipment, or was
many years ago...
