[EMAIL PROTECTED] asked,

| I am new to the minidisc scene.. I was wondering if there is a way to "dump"
| files from a computer to a minidisc w/out having to play the entire track..
| like for example from mp3, aif or wav to md..

No, sorry.  Remember that a MiniDisc recorder is an audio recording device;
don't think of it as a computer peripheral. It can store tracks only in its
own format; you can copy the sound of an MP3 or wav file to it but you can't
transfer the file itself.

Something has to generate an audio signal (S/PDIF or analog) for the MD unit
to record. It can -- the exception will be noted below, so cool your jets,
folks -- go only in real time. You can always do other things while it's
running.

The exception is certain CD-MD combo units that can copy from CD to MD at 2x
or even 4x; but if you're recording input from an external source, then they,
too, go at real time.
