A belated happy new year to you all. :)

First, and really the most important thing, is that I wanted to take this
opportunity to remind you to set up two-factor authentication on your accounts.
It seems to be every other week that we hear about some service being
compromised, and the database of user accounts hacked. While steps can be
taken to protect account passwords in many databases, often times its
inadequate to protect people getting hacked, especially when they are often in
the habit of sharing passwords across accounts. Two-factor authentication
means that in addition to your password, you also use your phone to receive a
text message that contains a code which you enter on the site, so that the site
can verify that you are in possession of your phone. I don't know yet about
the various authenticator apps, but text messages always work for me.

There is a good long list here of services that support two-factor
authentication, with links to set it up; everything from Apple to Google to
Microsoft:

I have yet to sort through a backlog of email. I will soon. If you're being
held up, apologies.

In other news, while I love Apple's AirPort base stations, they're holding me
up with their PPPoE support. My Cisco 881W is now in a drawer pending future
review, and a Draytek 2860 is now providing WAN connectivity. This is a router
with two USB ports, and two WAN links--one (V)DSL, and one gigabit LAN. I can
use one USB port for a 4G dongle to provide backup and the other for a
thermometer or NAS. The DSL line connects to BT Infinity directly, without the
need of the OpenReach modem. This is a great next-step router, because it
supports current connectivity methods, leaves room for expansion through USB
and Ethernet, and is very configurable. My Time Capsule remains as a fine
wireless access point, in bridge mode.

AudioQuake is being resumed. We are working on getting it running on current
platforms. The first step is to port the bugger through eight years of
technology progress. You can follow along with development at:

And for general info:

It's not ready for use yet, obviously. We're both on Mac, so Mac comes first.
Right now the first thing to do is sort out some crashing issues new to the
latest OS X version, Mavericks. If you're interested in contributing or
testing, use our new "agrip-project" Google Group.

Right, that's everything for now. Cheers, and carry on. :)

IAB,
Me
