To be perfectly honest I find *plenty* of situations where I'd like to 
open up a couple pages of a private workgroup wiki to an additional 
collaborator without opening up the entire site to them.

It's tough to retrofit this model in reliably, but it's a legitimate use 
case. Not everything is a public wiki. :)
