I agree that the board needs to focus on something else! When we questioned the Ohio State Board of Pharmacy about paper MAR issue we were told that it they wanted to make electronic documentation and ordering safer than paper documentation. I'm not convinced it is safer. Not only does this PIN pertain to the eMAR, but also to CPOE.
What is really frustrating is the PIN cannot be typed! We have to develop bar-coded badges with an ASCII character, so our PIN's cannot be typed. Our employee ID badge barcode doesn't work because it doesn't have the ASCII character and I'm told that our Kronos system won't recognize the character if we would add it to our ID barcode. We are the first Ohio Meditech Client Server site to receive the custom. We were supposed to go LIVE with eMAR and BMV on June 4th, but had to delay due to a unrelated problem. The State Board called on June 3rd and told us they were coming on the 4th. They gave us a certain criteria that we had to include in our policy.
