This could be considered, but to me it feels like a duplication of content.

I don't necessarily agree with this. From what I understand, the Maemo
forums will continue to exist and may have separate threads unrelated to
MeeGo. All the content in the Maemo forums will then not be lost at all, but
retained for however long the community feels it's relevant. Starting fresh
on MeeGo doesn't mean that thoughts and conclusions in Maemo can't be used
as the starting point.
