Greetings all,

A new year is underway and thoughts of events, large and small, are on
the minds of many.

Along those lines I have been discussing sponsorship of regional/local
events such as the popular Texas Linuxfest with Nathan Willis and
others. Jari has brought the topic up for the MeeGo Finland network
events. MeeGo presents a unique challenge there that I hope we can find
a way to resolve.

Given its status asa brand, it makes sense to draw on MeeGo for
sponsorship of relevant events. However, that brings up the question of
budget.

It's my understandng that while the Linux Foundation has been a sponsor
of sorts at events, it is not underwriting them per se. That of course
would come under the purview of its own sponsors such as Nokia, Intel, et
al.

However, soliciting a corporate sponsor for an event that wants MeeGo as
the listed sponsor gets sticky. The question of benefit comes up. Why
would, say, Nokia underwite all or part of a regional/local event under
the auspices of MeeGo? (especially in an area where they would have
little or no market presence.) By all rights any benefits of exposure
would (at least in theory) be spread across all MeeGo corporate sponsors.

The easy resolution that comes to mind is a sponsorship pool administered
by the Linux Foundation at their full discretion and fed by corporate
sponsors. But is this feasable?

Another possibility is co-branded sponsorship. ie, "MeeGo via Nokia" or
somesuch phrasing. But even then, soliciting sponsorship could be an
exercise in frustration since there are so many companies involved in
MeeGo.

So in summation: how do we achieve a "Sponsored by MeeGo" for
regional/local events? What would the scope be? Or should such a thing
even be conceived?

Thanks in advancefor all thoughts.
