Thanks Oleg and Robert,

Now I understand the naming policy (Fennec v.s. Firefox Mobile).

I would still like to verify that I have understood the versioning correctly.

So the version MeeGo.com has in build server for 1.1
http://build.meego.com/package/binaries?package=fennec-qt&project=MeeGo%3A1.1%3ACore&repository=standard
is based on something between 2.0a1 and 4.0b1-real when compared to releases
found from
http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/mobile/releases/
Am I right?

And the upcoming MeeGo.com release will be based on MeeGo.com Trunk
http://build.meego.com/package/binaries?package=fennec-qt&project=Trunk&repository=standard
That is 4.0b8pre1109
Am I right?

Interesting side note, where Mozilla has put 4.0b6 and 4.0b7? Or have they
decided not to release those at all?
http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/mobile/releases/ has only up to 4.0b5.

Best Regards,
        Janne

That's actually wrong, as "nightly" versions, i.e. the development
versions are using the "Fennec" name (just like desktop versions use
"Minefield" for those) and that one goes without tight trademark
control, while releases use the registered "Firefox" trademark name that
comes with certain restrictions (like only using Mozilla-approved patches).

Current version in development is 4.0b6pre
Mozilla official beta's are available here:
http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/mobile/releases/

latest upstream is
hg clone http://hg.mozilla.org/mozilla-central
hg clone http://hg.mozilla.org/mobile-browser mozilla-central/mobile
.... mozconfig + build

Fennec is code project name,.. name for official releases is "Mobile
Firefox" or "Firefox"

The only important thing here is Firefox brand...
If you have some patches/changes which are conflicting with Firefox
policy or just not approved by mozilla, then you are not able to use
Firefox brand name (let say you are using gstreamer and enabling H264
codecs support)

You can use custom Mobile Firefox build with some special patches, but
then you need to rename it to some "Meego Browser" or Mozilla For Meego...
