Just to clarify, there are two uses of "framebuffer" in this discussion: this would be using a /dev/fbN *device* from userspace. The MRST driver supports that API, and I can confirm that it can be mapped and used (though it's quite slow, and I wan't using the fbdump tool itself). But my understanding is the support is emulated; there is no physical device memory underneath the mapping you get. But as already discussed: if you want to capture a MeeGo desktop, what's wrong with xwd?
