I would like any input from you folks regarding the Booking Fee issue. In
the 1999 State Legislative Wrap-Up Bulletin, AB 1662 was discussed. The
paragraph contained the following: "Cities that pay other cities to book
prisoners will not see relief from this measure. Nor will cities that
contract with the county sheriff to provide police services which include
booking of municipal arrestees." My City Manager has questioned this issue.
We contract for Law Enforcement with the San Diego County Sheriff's
Department. Our city is charged separately for booking fees. I believe that
makes us eligible to receive the reimbursement, and in fact, we did receive
our payment in early December. I was asked, however, to verify that we are
eligible to continue to receive the ongoing relief - it's obviously
important to future budgets!
