Brad,
The LZ head originated on an L14 engine as a 1600 formula Pacific engine.
In the late 80's Scuderia brought in about 10 of these engines to OZ,
making about 210 bhp from 1600 cc. Not bad huh! The biggest problem with
setting up on an L20B is the difference in deck heights, requiring a
modified gear train for the cam drives. On the l18 engine there is no
problem with this. The bearings in the drive train gears are very small and
prone to premature wear. They must be changed very regularly to prevent
failure. The end result is worth it though as proven by Richard Thompson in
the U2ltr sports sedans some years ago running a fuel injected version with
MOTEC. Barry Brays Gazelle sports sedan also ran an LZ head as well as
being turboe'd. It made about 650 - 700 hp I believe. Spares (ie camshafts,
manifolds, etc) are a make your own item now.
Cheers
Feral Errol
