It looks like I've mis-read the original post. I thought it seemed to be
asking about an 8K paint job, but having re-read it I think the paint was
$2500 which could be fairly reasonable for 2 Pak if the body is fairly
straight and not too much rust. That leaves $5500 for the other items. If
you look at it that way then let's have a look at the mechanical bits. You
must be still able to fully rebuild a stock street L20B for ~$2000, get a
second hand gearbox for $300-$400 ($500 tops for a good Stanza box &
clutch), ~$200 for HM21C header, suspension upgrade; say $500 for
Kings/Pedders all round, $500 for shocks all round; say Munroes/Kyb, brake
upgrade? I'm guessing here - say $500 for R31 rear discs, We are up to
~$4000 so that leaves around $1500 for labour to fit all the bits.
It doesn't seem too bad when you break it down, I would want around $1500
labour to do all this as a paid job too.
