Eddie,
I can add a bit here.

Plugs:
Bosch Platinum: W8 DPX
NGK Platinum: BPR 6EVX
Standard plugs in this heat range will work but they fall apart very quickly, usually very 2nd hand in 6000 miles.

Gearboxes.
The FJ turbo has a beefed up version of the ZL71 gearbox, and used with the B bellhousing. Any ZL box can be swapped and retrofitted to the B bellhousing which is rotated towards the RHD drivers side. 2nd option is bend the gear stick, seen it done but yuk! When sourcing a non-FJt gearbox there is another difference, the first gear ratio is 3.6 and the more common ratio is 3.3, 2nd & 3rd are slightly different to the stock ZL too but this is not a big problem, although I think Nissan preferred us to burn our tyres instead of the clutch, hence the low first gear.

regards,
Terry

My FJ has poor syncro's on second too.  Nature of the beast.  Associated problem is the selector rails become worn.  The N/A box, whether it will fit or not, is probably not a good idea as the internals are not nearly as strong as the Turbo box.  That said, the bellhousing from the FJ box will fit up with other 6 cylinder 'boxes.  Maybe someone else can enlighten me which ones ?  However the selector will come up at an angle

d 2) can I change the airflow meter to a hotwire type from a VG30E or similar?

No.  The ECU would have to be re-programmed or modified.

I'll have to pull one to check, I'll get back to you.

No, the ECU controls both ignition timing and injection.

In Aussie, there are many suppliers.  www.fourplusperformance.com.au is one.
Stuart Wilkins Racing, in Pitt Town N.S.W.  also do full gasket kits, parts etc.
