Having one of those days where you wanna just kick the crap
outta your datto.
No, don't do it.
Few things happened, but the one I'm worried about is my
brakes/handbrake
I pulled on my handbrake in uni and snapped it, between the
bit where it goes from one line to both the wheels at the back. And now not
only that but my brakes are spungy as, like they almost touch the floor. I
bled them once before and I don't think I did a good job. I couldn't remember
the order to bleed them, is it furthest to closest?
It's a good
idea to adjust your rear drums before you do a full re-bleed but something
that's often overlooked is the handbrake cable should be backed right off
prior to adjusting the rear shoes especially if you haven't had the car long
or checked out whether or not the shoes are correctly adjusted.. If the
handbrake cables are adjusted without adjusting the drums first, the rear
brakes lose efficiency and are also difficult to bleed as the slave cylinders
are held out further in the bores than is optimal, and the symptoms are like
you have described (assuming your hydraulics aren't leaking
etc).
I have
pasted a previous response from Craig on the correct way to bleed a brake
system.
If the master cylinder has bleeder valves on it, bleed them
first. There should be two. Always bleed one at a time. Then start with the
longest brake line from the master cylinder, back left then back right then
front left then front right. Remember the sequence: check fluid reservoir,
open bleeder valve, slowly push pedal, lock bleeder valve, release pedal. Once
all have been bled, pump the brake pedal. If the pedal gets harder as you pump
it, there's air in there and you will have to bleed the system again.
Obviously you need two people for this operation, however, there are single
person bleeding devices available. - Craig
Also whats the best bet with my handbrake? a second hand one
from the wreckers? how much should I pay? '
I think an early Japanese 180B front cable will fit the
1600 - I take it that's what you snapped? Couldn't be worth more than $10 for
one at the wreckers.
