Not headlights,
(this time), but a previous owner has removed the resistor from my ignition.
yes i am running a points style dizzy and was wondering what the long term
effects this has( I assume the points will burn out quicker). The car is a
circuit only vehicle, so it doesn't see much running time.
It depends on what type
of coil is being used an if there is a MSD or CDI unit
being used. If it's all
stock or as usual a Bosch GT-R coil then it is best to use a BR as your
points will fry in quick time and be prone to high RPM failure and that's
where you want everything working
well.
Also, the power wire from the
wiring loom goes to the negative side of the coil (as well as tacho), and the
wire from the points is attached to the posative side of the coil. Is this
normal for a datto ????
On a negative earth
electrical system the power to the coil is on the positive side and the pulse
side (-ve) goes to the
points. I take it the big black wire from the +ve battery terminal goes to the
starter solenoid. Don't laugh but I have seen everything reversed (not on a
Datto) and it's amazing that most things still work but a few things
don't.
My other cars always had power to
the posative on the coil, then the negative went to the dizzy (points etc) as
well as the tacho.
