Spacers are also illegal here in Vic, with 2 exceptions, 1 if factory
fitted, 2 if solidly mounted to either the wheel or hub, I'm securing them
to the wheels with countersunk hi-tensile machine screws. I would be very
hesitant in having the centre section of wheels welded/heated!

personally I think spacers are crap, but when you have a complete set of
alloy wheels and 90% A008 tyres sitting in your garage (came off my 180SX),
you tend to do what you can to make 'em fit   : )
