Heres an intersting thing I heard from my dad. Hear it out and then let
the comments fly:
A scientist was studying the petrol industry some years ago when ULP was
being phased in. His argument was that the big push to bring in ULP,
that the lead in petrol is dangerous to children's health, was a hoax.
Manufacturers wanted to fit new cars with catlithic converters to filter
the exhaust fumes, the problem was that the lead in petrol was detroying
the catalithic converters in a few months. So he claimed that the real
reason to push the use of ULP was from the manufacturers of the cat
converters because they wear out in 12 months even when using ULP and
need to be replaced. Obviously theres a profit to be made, and so enter
stage left ULP and government regs to enforce it ...
Has anyone heard anything of such a cover up or am I just rambling?

I've always ran my car on PULP except for the occasional long trip when
I
ran on leaded.
I've always been told ULP is fine in an L-series. Those that tell you
otherwise seem to not know much about Datsun motors specifically.
