Scott,
Thats spot on the money. If you look at the easily achievable power outputs
of an A14 say conservatively (130 hp) and the power output of a conservative
2 litre (165 -170hp) for the weight difference you are better of with the A
series (93kgs vs 137 for the L20B). Plus the L series uses heavier gearboxes
and also the mounting differences in cross members etc means about an extra
100 kg for the L20B conversion. The changes to brake systems need to be much
more serious as well with the L20B.

Heya Mike,

I had a look at the L swap into a 1200. U will have to fabricate new engine
mounts and try and sit the engine low and back as far as possible for bonnet
clearence. New gearbox mounts will also be needed. U will need to hook up
the clutch cable somehow or run your clutch on fluid. Probably more
involved im sure.

I wouldnt bother fitting and L series engine unless a lot of work has
allready been done to it. If your going to do that then u may aswell spend a
few more bucks and fit a Z18. Or even better a CA18. Or u could just work
an A14/15. My A14 has roughly 150hp and goes pretty hard. Its Andrew
Denisses X race engine and i droped it straight in. Also, the L series are
heavier than the A, which is not a good thing for handling.

As for a brake upgrade, it depends on how far u want to go. I just fitted
up c210 Sklyline struts to my 1200 with Honda 10" disc's and Landcruiser 4
spots. I used stanza lower control arms and stanza radius rods. I havent
actually been on the road yet with my new frontend but hopefully this
weekend or the one after. The 200b or Stanza swap are the most common but
the skyline strut is alot shorter so i went for it. They all have the same
stub axle so disc/caliper upgrades are the same.
