I can speak from experience as I ran wheel spacers years ago in Group G. I
fitted Moroso wheel studs which are still available and still very
expensive. They have a very fine thread and are longer. The thread tries
to compensate for any vibration caused by the spacer and the extra lateral
energy felt at the end of the stud. To cut a long story short I was fucking
doing up wheel studs every time i came in from a competitive section. At
one point in a long stage I had to stop because the rear was wandering
around so badly and it was because the two back wheels had come loose. I
also lost a front wheel on the street driving back from scrutineering one
night because after weeks of being worn by the spacer the studs all broke.
The wheel took off, hit a gutter, hopped about 4 metres into the air jumping
a parked commodore and landed flat on the footpath, about 50 metres from
where I lost it. It could have killed someone or wrecked the Commodore it
hopped over.

Basically, unless you use center hub nuts like in Nascar or GroupA spacers
are nothing short of dangerous.

Andrew,
I have a phobia about wheel studs, as I saw a really bad accident that
resulted from losing a front wheel when all four studs broke at once. I
would get some different hubs machined up to suit the wheels if you really
wanted to use them. While you are it you could get the hubs made to suit
some bigger discs and calipers

Errol,
What if I were to fix the spacers to the original studs and fit 4 new studs
between them.Although this would be expensive unless I can access the
machinery.
