Tony,
I think you have answered your own question here. The 1600 210 is small
ports, small valves, 36cc chambers etc and A87 is much bigger even in the
smallest configuration of the L18 - (you wont find many A87 36cc heads here
in Aus - even lucky to find many in NZ.)
Some of your combustion capacities are a bit off though, stock Nissan
capacities are 210/219 - 36cc, A87 - 36cc or 41cc (All V912 are 41cc), U67 -
45cc, W53 - 39cc.
A 210 head with 33cc left has had a decent shaving, I'm not surprised that
it failed, as must the A87 head too with only 37cc left. One of the
technical nuts in the US has a table on his site that gives the revised
chamber volumes for every 10 thou the surface is shaved but if your head is
shave past the bottom of the "Nissan" stamp on the plug side then it's in
the red zone and cam tower spacers are required then or some of the US ppl
remove links and use a Merc joiner - tricky that.
INHO a L20B with a L18 A87 at 12.3:1 will whoop a L20B/1600 210 with 14:1
any day (both stock heads of course).

Are the 210 heads that bad? I had one I was going to port and use
on the race L20B to get a whopping 14:1 CR, but unfortunetely it
cracked along side an exhaust guide. I had to settle for an A87 and
12.3:1 CR
I measured it at 33cc combustion camber, vs 37ish for the A87, and
45ish for the U67.
