Duncan,

The wade 76 in my engine, L20B, doesn't make power until 4000rpm and
finishes at 6500rpm. I would get rid of the spacer. I am running 10.3:1 CR
on optimax with no probs. Make sure you have hardened valve seats. A 76 has
a lot of lift so make sure you have the appropriate valve springs to avoid
coil bind.

Most important: Check the wipe pattern on on the rocker arms when installing
a new cam and torque the cam sprocket bolt. Not doing this leads to costly
mistakes.

Cheers
Trev

i think i have found the problem................

the main jets were poverty type soldered and re-drilled ones......they were
leaking fuel.

replaced main jets and it seams ok for now.

the engine was built about 5 years ago (previous owner) with Z24 crank, Z24
rods, 88 mm Z22 flat tops, a wierd 40/80 cam (very blocky is shape), new
45's with 38mm chokes, datrally style manifold, s2 bb ignition (re-graphed),
200B head with slight porting and 44mm inlet and 36mm exhaust valves.
bore-88, stroke-96mm.

when first built, it made 10:1 comp and approximately 130 bhp at wheels at
only 5000 rpm. it made 122 bhp at 4000 rpm !!!!! wierd cam ???

now it has a 1.5 mm aluminium spacer (i think 9:1) and smaller jets

my plans are to pull the head off, inspect bores and valve clearance and buy
a wade/datrally 76 deg cam. i don't know if it is a stroker thing or cam
specs but it doesn't want to pull any more than 6000 rpm.

the head has had a decent shave, so i hope the valves don't hit the slugs
when i put the 76 in. also rocker geometry may be a problem.

any ideas,

thanks,

duncan.

on my 2.3 L series. full throttle is good but it backfires through the carbs
during slight accel and cruise. i'm thinking that the idle jets are too
large and there is too much fuel.

achieving 9:1 comp now but over 10:1 without it.
