Iggy,
You shouldn't have this problem and I don't recommend that you fit spacers
i.e. work out what's wrong with it as i'm not confident that spacers would
fix the real problem safely.

If your bracket is absolutely flush with the flange then the bracket is
unlikely to be the problem or at least it doesn't strike me as such. Some of
my questions may seem a bit basic but I think we have to cover everything
from go to whoa to work out what's wrong. I'll pull a wheel off mine
tomorrow (later today actually) so I can recall what is flush with what with
everything together eg the rotor and hub (where the wheel bolts up too) are
almost flush from memory.

Yes, your bracket is the correct way round as you have to grind out the
curved bit to fit over the 1600 "A" arm i.e. curved bit is towards the diff
and you don't fit the Skyline backing plate, I can't remember exactly why,
but you don't.

Did you ream out the centre hole in the bracket (2 or 3 mm from memory) so
it fits over the lip?

When you try to fit the calliper how much off centre are we talking here?

Did you have pads in when you tried to fit it up?

If the outer edge of the disc is hitting the calliper - my first thoughts
are that the axle is not located all the way in.

Did you actually remove the axle or do the brackets the Craig (Maddat) way
i.e. cut the crap out of them so they fit over the axle with it still
installed?

If the axle was removed:
Have you done the 1/2 shaft flange up on the axle with the 175# torque nuts?

What axles and brakes etc did you start with - stock 1600? Was it modified
previously?

Did you remember to re-fit the spacer between the bearings on the axle?

Lotsa questions I know but without seeing it she could be a tricky one to
suss out. I hope all this makes sense, I need sleep.

regards
Terry

Subject: R31 rears.

Guys,

I'm in the middle of doing my rear disc conversion. I am using the R31 discs
and calipers. I have modified the mounting bracket and it sits ok on the
suspension arm. Problem is when it is all bolted up, the other edge of the
disc contacts the caliper. Now it might sound like the bracket is not flush
with the flange, but I have checked and it is. I can put spacers behind the
caliper mounting bolts to get it to fit but would rather not. Did anyone
else have this problem? The bracket is supposed to be fitted with the,
bugger how do I explain this...., the curved bit towards the diff? I have
forgotten which way they came off the R31.

Any suggestions?

Thanks
Ignacio Sandejas
