Hey dude, sounds like your battery's flat or the starters given up.

Subject: Help! I'm Desperate!
This plee comes because i am suffering withdrawal symptoms after not being
able to drive my datto!
I have installed an L20B into my 1600, and everything is ready to go except
when i go to turn it over, there is a loud tapping noise from the starter
motor/solenoid.
I know the engine does turn over as i had it running somehow for about 30
seconds a few days ago, although since then it mystically wont start. (i
only ran it for 30 secs because i wanted to call a friend and get him to
come and adjust timing etc because it was running a bit rough.)
I am fairly convinced it is something to do with the wiring, although i have
been staring at wiring diagrams for days and i still can't work it out!
I took the starter motor off (wires still connected) and when i turned the
key the little cog just kept jumping in and out. (isn't it meant to just
stay out spinning until you let go of the key???!?)
This made the same loud tapping noise as before.
i don't think my alternator is wired up correctly either, so any advice on
which wires connect to where would be useful too!
I have pretty much given up on my poor old 1600, so if anyone has any advice
as to what is wrong and how to fix it, let me know because i would really
appreciate it! really, i mean anything! I must get my datto running!
even better, if someone on the list is driving a 1600 in the glen waverley
area and would like to help out a fellow datsun fanatic by lifting their
hood as a comparison to my wiring, then give me a call on 0402572488. I
would really appreciate it!
Cheers,
Mark.
