A well tuned pair of SUs in good shape can be surprisingly OK , think the problem is most haven't been rebuilt and are pretty worn and far from factory clearances after 30 odd years. How about sneaking some fuel injectors into a nikki body - that would be fun. Just tell the scrutineers its a very sophisticated automatic choke , possibly disquise the ECU as a stereo amplifier :) Actually I've always thought an SU setup with hidden injectors would be fun on a z car /roadster etc..
