Peter from Sydney with the SR20 1600 has these Nissan 4-spots on his
front 200B struts I believe. You can get a hold of him on the
SR20transplants group.

Dave

has anyone here ever put these brakes on their datsun 1600 or seen/heard
of it done before?
also is it illegal to weld a caliper mount onto a strut?

I have 240K struts brakes in mine with a std master cyl and i find this
works much better than a mate of mine with 200B struts and brakes.

Braking ability is all about pressure, (which is force/area) So yes the
200B's do have a larger area, but a smaller force due to the single
piston. I would stick with the 240K and if possible get a larger 15/16
Urvan master cylinder to increase the force your putting into them.
THere are plently of masters around that do a good job from the std 3/4
up to the 15/16 and everything in between

As to the discs, the 240K coupe came with 270mm disc, the 240K sedan with
253mm, which is virtually the same as the 200B.

240K with a decent master cylinder (not the std one, it'll be working to
hard) say 3/4 dual system or 13/16, 7/8, 15/16 and i think you've got the
best std brake set up you can get

Subject: Calipers - 200b Vs twin spot sumitomo.

All,

I have got a 1600 with early 240k struts with twin spot sumitomo
calipers, 10.5" discs.

I have been told that changing to single spot 200b calipers will give me
better braking with the same discs.

Is this true? and will the 200b calipers bolt directly onto the 240k
struts. 200b caliper bolt spacing ~120mm.

The reason was because the 200b pads are thinner and longer giving more
force on the outside of the discs hence better stopping.

I was of the opinion the twin spots were better brakes.
would love to know the truth

Chris King.
