I wouldnt discount it as urban myth. Remember the fireworks display that
killed the young girl in Brisbane a couple of years ago. The guy put a
fairly tame roman candle into a metal tube. The roman candle was faulty and
exploded sending shrapnell into the crowd. As a result a girl died, a number
of people were injured and the "pyrotechnician" lost his leg. Even though
it was a tame piece, it is common knowledge you dont use metal casings for
fireworks, and this incident forced a ban on using metal for fireworks
displays.
Have turbos actually broken their casing clean open?
