Mind you I''d been renewing rear brake cylinders, alternator, clutch master, radiator & coolant hoses in the months preceding that just to get it reliable.

Got there paid the $$, went out on the track for a dozen laps including the highlight of the day....rounding up and passing a V8 'Brute Ute' from the Pro Car series.

Noticed the temp getting up, go in, no thermo fans, no water spray. 'Hot wire' fans, replace water spray motor with windscreen washer motor. Back out to go back onto track and BANG, ripped the back section of the exhaust literally off the car. I hadn't notied a steel covered drainage pit or similar that was sitting up above rest of the tarmac.

Back the car up onto ramps to check out the dam, and notice the dreaded green coolant dripping from the back of the motor. Further investigations showed up a split heater hose.

At that point I cracked the shits, packed up and went home.

As for the two other guys that came along, one guy broke a throttle linkage in the first run. Got towed off the track and we did a patch up to get it going again. Dozen or so laps later, blew his option 1, 5 speed (ala $600 or so).

The other guy in a near stock L20 1600, ran the most laps after pumping a heap of oil on the track after over-filling on an oil change....But a few laps after I finished, he toasted the L20 and I've heard his now in the process of putting the L16 back in :((

So who says it's a cheap sport ??

Hi Guys,

If anyone is interested, myself and atwo other datto drivers will betaking the carsto Calder Park this Wednesday for a day of private practice / test and tune (basic thrash around).

Entry is Free, but you will have to mention my name and sign in at the gate. Depending on the weather, you normally get to see some nice cars out there testing. Last time I was out there, the complete Ferrari Prancing Horse Team, the 666 Lamborghini team and a handful of other ProCar GT / GTP championship cars.

Well worth a look if you can get a few hours away from work. We will be there from about 8.30am til 4pm.

Cheers,

p.s. OR if you're feeling keen, it's $165 to enter your car for the full day and all you need is a helmet and driving suit (that you can hire out there if you dont have one).
