I think this subject is getting a little out of hand here, but I thought I
would add my bit any ways.

About a month ago, we had a ozdat cruise here in Perth, through the windy
hilly roads of Mundaring.

There was a slightly worked L18, followed by my stock 1970 1600 SSS 4 door,
and then there was a
very worked(very nice red 1600) with a L20 very well built head, twin 45
webbers, R180 locker? or LSD with disk brake rear end and a 5 speed gearbox,
as I say it was very nice. The head on this car only had half of the Nissan
left on it as it had been shaved so much in the past.

Any how the L18 was still being run in so I do not add it into the equasion,
any how I would leat the L18 get half way up the hilly stuff while I held
the revs in my L16 up where the cam seems to work best, and let her rip,
flat shift her 6900 rpm into third and go for it hell for leather up the
hill, and leave the very nice L20 powered beast in my dust, I kept my car
always on the cam, in a lower gear, I did not get out of third all day, I
deffinatly blew the cob webs out of her, any how we stopped at the pub, the
bloke with the L20 seemed very amased at the power in my stock L16 SSS
engine, and asked a couple of times what I had actually done to her, didn't
really believe it was stock.
He also saw a very scary moment for me, where halfway up a windy hill, I was
in second, somewhere around 6500RPM where I shifted hard into third on a
crest, on a little bit of loose stuff and he saw the rear end start to leave
me, drifting style, where I only just caught it, seeing this made him think
my car was even more powerfull.
I told him about my driving style, and he went ohhhh, I don't drive any
where as hard as that!!
He was using every gear he had, low revs, at all time ect ect.

So I believe it is not the car, the engine or any of the bolt ons, it is how
close to the destruction of the engine the person driving the car is
prepared to go.

There is no way in hell, I will ever say my stock L16 SSS engine is more
powerfull than his.
I was just prepared to try a little harder on the day, and I recon if we
ever meet again, he will of improved his driving style, and will kick my
but.

All the best, I hope this clears up a little bit of confusion any one had.
Have a great week.
Rick White.
