Dead set easy to make - two types though, depends on whether you have open
breathing system with your side draft webers like a Datrally and Lynx
manifold or closed style like Warnaford (sp) and Redline. Open system on
mine so you don't have to have the canister sealed perfectly as there is
very little pressure in the system. This was my first attempt and so was
just to see if the concept worked as the literature suggested it does - I
search around for a suitable receptacle and found a coffee beans tin, came
with a nice metal clamp on lid, it is sealed well enough to keep the coffee
beans fresh, so I 'm thinking it's got a good chance to work. Bought a
couple of Gardenia sprinkler system 18mm fittings, one straight the other
with a 90 degree bend as I located the canister on the passenger side
between the strut tower & the firewall. I was a bit concerned about the
proximity of the headers but the tin doesn't get hot (& Fergy installed his
flash one there). I filled up the tin with all of the scouring pads & steel
wool that I could find around the place. Drilled a hole in the lid, fitted
the right angle garden connector and attached the original filter that was
on the rocker. Drilled another hole in the side of the tin around 1/3 from
the top, and fitted the other irrigation fitting. Ran a piece of heater hose
from the rocker outlet to the tin and there you have it. Oil stays cleaner,
no mist or sulphur smells coming from the filter any more. Looks pretty crap
but it works brilliantly.

To use an oil/air separator on a turbo or PCV type sealed system you need to
construct the canister out of say 3" exhaust pipe, fill it up with the
scouring buds or steel wool and weld the ends on. Then you would use barb
fittings for the hoses. The flash G Ready types (around $100 for $10 or so
worth of materials) have a sight glass so you know when its time to drain
the canister.

So it really made a noticable difference hey? I never really knew if
they would be any good. A mate of mine made one up for a 308 he had, and
in the seperator he used one of those green plastic scouring pads as an
internal filter to try to knock the mist out of the air, worked like a
charm for him.
