Grab the manager and tell him that if he can't help you then you have no choice but to take it to the Department of Fair Trading (or whatever consumer watchdog group looks after your state) and let them decide. Usually that kicks a bit of customer service into people. I was nearly thrown out of a computer shop once until I dropped that line on them and I walked out with a brand new computer that I didn't pay for not long after.

It costs a retailer megabucks just to begin sorting stuff out when you take it to consumer complaints organisations. Costs YOU nothing / bugger all, but it hits the company hard financially and 9 out of 10 times the customer wins as well.
