Dear All,
I wanted to first thank you for your help in this effort we are undertaking. It is our goal to make the translation of documents, presentations, and websites go much smoother in the future. In order to that, we're compiling a 'how to guide' that details the best practices for using translated text for your ICANN-related activities, whatever they may be. Please view and answer the below questions. You can copy and paste the below questions into a new email and email it to [email protected] who will be putting together this guide. Thanks again for your help! Note: all questions are optional - answer the ones you know you can answer. Be as descriptive as possible! ------------ copy and paste below into new email ------------ Question 1: What process do you use for getting your text translated into Arabic? Question 2: Which software programs (PowerPoint, Word, Pages, etc.) have you seen work best with Arabic translations? Question 3: What process do you use to successfully display your translated text in Microsoft Word? Question 4: What process do you use to successfully display your translated text in Microsoft PowerPoint? Question 5: What process do you use to successfully display your translated text on websites? Sincerely, Jeffrey Dunn Online Education Specialist From: Fahd Batayneh Sent: Wednesday, November 20, 2013 7:19 PM Subject: Arabic Translation Crowd Sourced Document (sorry for cross posting) Friends and Colleagues, As you know, translation plays a critical role at ICANN. Documents, websites, presentations, etc. all have to be translated. Arabic script has posed several issues over the past few weeks. As many of you may have witnessed, the script often appears broken in power point presentations or on certain platforms. In an effort to ensure proper translation across all media, we are building a how-to guide for the proper integration of Arabic translations. I am asking for your help in assembling this guide. The only thing you'll have to do is reply to an email. You're going to be getting that email from Jeff Dunn, the Online Learning Specialist at ICANN, who is spearheading this effort. He is going to ask you for your tips and best practices that you'd like to share with others. So be on the lookout for an email from Jeff and start thinking about the best ways you integrate Arabic translations into your work. Together, we can crowd source a useful document that helps many others for years to come. Thank you, Fahd Batayneh ICANN
