This has been my experience. I was raised in a house where a loaded gun
was kept behind the front door all the time. This was years ago when we
had to hunt for our food. All us children had a healthy respect for guns
because we saw things die when the guns were used. The problem now is
that children are insulated from such "traumatic" scenes. The only
consequences they see from guns is what they see on TV, which they know
is not real.

...If you have
kids in the house, you need to start early by training them to NOT touch

guns and to respect them etc. I tought our kids this, I used to every

once in a while leave a gun laying around somewhere that they would see
it(unloaded of course) as a test. They always see it and right away
come get an adult. Education is the key to gun safety.
