Richard, Great story - I'm going to throw some zip ties into my car next to the duct tape. I've got some huge zip ties meant for connecting flexible HVAC ductwork - would probably only take two to substitute the alternator belt. Sounds like you bypassed the alternator and just went around the water pump pulley and crank pulley, no?
