I had exactly that setup on my VW diesel. The Bosch relays that VW uses weld on or turn intermittent often enough that a lot of VW owners have made this modification. It's actually kind of educational, 'cause you get to see what the relay does, which isn't the same as what the dash light does. A sticking glow relay will destroy a set of glow plugs in short order. I also had monitor LEDs for the electric cooling fan on that van. I'm paranoid that way. ;)
