Only someone stupid enough to think that doctors and medicine are the
only solution for sickness is likely to think that gmail is a good idea
for everyone.

 * Sorry Tjohn. I'm _am_ picking on you. You're post just happens

In my case, it's _because_ the list is so busy I _don't_ want to use
gmail's web mail service!! _I_ think it's pretty silly to tie up my
'phone line just to _read_ all the email that comes from all the lists.

These features you speak so highly of _only_ work if you think that
reading email _while_ online is a sensible thing...

Some of us think there are other ways.

Yes, I use a gmail address. But I don't read my mail online - nor do I
read my snail-mail while sitting in the Post Office. So those features
you assume all gmail users "benefit" from don't apply to me.

So I'm glad gmail works well for you. But don't think that the way _you_
use gmail is the one and only, best way for everyone.

I choose to use a local (LAN) IMAP and SMTP servers running on GNU/Linux
with custom scripts for sending and receiving. This, for me, is the most
sensible way for me to manage my email. But I'm smart enough to also
know that just because it works well for me _doesn't_ mean that it is
the right answer for everone.

Please continue to share the advantages you see in gmail.

Please keep in mind that even gmail has a number of options.

          Philip,
gmail user, who's tired of reading
"If you don't use Gmail web mail,
                  you are stooopid!!"
