The original Smart car got 60 - 70 mpg with the Diesel engine. That's
what got me excited about it. However, they have no plans to sell the
Diesel version in the US, and the original model is out of production
now. I've lost all interest. I'm very happy with the 33 - 35 I get in
the 2.5 turbos.
Yes, an affordable Tesla is the next one I'm excited about --- but I
like the 124'as so much, I'll probably keep them anyway (can't have
too many cars).
