When you dig below the frost line you get a nice steady 57*f.  House  
I live in was built with all the snazzy eco methods.  Cross  
ventilation, evaporative cooling, cellar food storage, low voltage  
lighting.  Most of this in 1927.  In the intervening years the owners  
sort of mucked it all up and I am undoing all the "upgrades" so that  
it will operate properly.
